This course provides students with the background to prepare to take the ICC Structural Steel and Bolting Special Inspector examination. Topics covered include: Duties and responsibilities of the Structural Steel and Bolting Special Inspector, background of structural Steel and Welding, safety on the jobsite, effective use of reference materials, welding, procedures for structural steel, light gage steel and rebar welding; pre-heat and post-heat treatments. Materials identification, checking welder certifications, electrodes and consumables, high strength bolting, devices used for testing high strength bolting, study techniques, research and reference of the Building Codes and related background materials, researching problems, industry terminology, procedure for plans revisions, job site protocol, checking fit-up, root passes and subsequent filler passes, writing daily reports, writing non-compliance reports, writing final reports, structural plans reading as it pertains to structural Steel and Welding and bolting, test taking strategies with applicable techniques, licensing procedures and jurisdictional guidelines.
